Mastering: What is it?

Mastering, a form of audio post-production, is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio (final Mix) from a source containing the final mix of all the stems to a wave file or mp3  (the digital master); this Final source can be used to send to a streaming or digital download service as well as legacy formats such as CD Replicators or Vinyl pressing plants.

The format of choice these days is the digital master, although analog masters, such as audio tapes, are still being used by the manufacturing industry and a few engineers who specialize in analog mastering.

In everyday hip hop terms, mastering gives your mix that radio or streaming quality sound that makes your music compete with what is already on the streaming services or the radio.

All files must be either 16bit or 24bit wave files. No mp3's as they are not of the best quality to master.
